This is so exciting. The entertainment industries are finally publically recognizing the power of contemporary African Music. Something that the author of this piece has recognized since going to Africa on an annual journey to the Capetown Jazz Festival. We have long know that the potency o contemporary music originating on the COntinenet was something that the audiences in the West should sitness. I mean these songs are DOPE!!

And so May 25 is Africa Day and YouTube along with MTV Base Africa are getting together to present an incredible global music experience known as the Africa Day Benefit Concert. Hosted by global heartthrob Idris Elba, this program will live stream on YouTube to the world. We are extremely impressed with the lineup as te concert will feature performances from Benin’s Angelique Kidjo, Kenya’s Sauti Sol, South Africa’s Sho Madjozi, and Nigeria’s Burna Boy.South African comedian Trevor Noah, reigning Miss Universe, Zozibini Tunzi, and rapper Sean Paul are also part of the concert’s line up presenters, according to the organizers.
